HISTORY:
XZX Electronics has been in business since 1988. Initial production used
to be low technology single sided boards. It was obvious from the beginning
that this type of product can not be manufactured in Southern California at
low enough cost to compete with off shore production. The company soon
migrated to double sided boards and then to multilayers. Since technical
people ran the company, it was a natural progression to add flexible circuits
in the product line. The rigid flex production did not start until the
commercial users of flex started designing the products around it (rigid flex).
The company has maintained excellent relationship with their customers
thereby earning the customer loyalty. PWB manufacturing involves an array of
chemicals that have to be handled in a proper manner. Since the plant is
located in Southern California, the regulatory requirements are tougher than
many other parts of the country. The company has been in full compliance to
all the requirements with the city, county, state and federal agencies.
TODAY
The company is located at 1342 East Borchard Ave, Santa Ana,
California, Occupying 8000 sq. ft space. The product mix is mainly flex, rigid
flex and mulilayer boards. The organization is non hierarchical and the
responsibility of various aspects of the business is divided clearly in the
management team.
PROCESS:
The responsibilities of the processes have been `flowed down’ to the
operator level. Each operation is being thoroughly documented with
extensive input from the operators. All customers concerns are transmitted to
the operators. All the inspection findings are forwarded to individual
operators. The company value statement clearly identifies the emphasis on
the operators.
QUALITY:
The quality policy of the company is straight and simple-Total Customer
Satisfaction-. This fact is reiterated to the operators at all possible
opportunities. The company does not see the `inspection based quality’ as a
viable approach. The new Next Operator As Customer (N.O.A.C.) program is
designed to hold each area responsible for the quality of the final product.
The Quality System –Q 2000- is a four tiered documented system
(Please see the attachment).
The Q A Manual defines the quality of the company and it is a non-dynamic
policy.
The Manufacturing Operations Procedures (MOP) rarely changes once
in place. These procedures go through an evolution process before full
implementation.
The Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) is the guidelines for non-
manufacturing areas. These change with changing climate of the business
and the need for adjustment to the dynamic nature of the market.
The Work Instructions (W.I) is the tool for the day-to-day operation. These
will change constantly to accommodate the changing needs of the
manufacturing department.
ETHICS
The company operates with specific guidelines to comply with regulatory,
legal, environmental, health, safety and the OSHA requirements.
CERTIFICATIONS:
This is an UL certified plant. The company manufactures product in
compliance to applicable IPC specifications. Some of the product is made
for specific customers on IAW-NCT- In Accordance With, Note Certified To-
basis. (e.g. Bellcore, Mil spec. etc.). The complete documentation in the
plant is under revision for planned application for ISO 9002.
CUSTOMERS:
The company services a wide array of customers in the communication,
computer, medical and automotive industry. Many of the direct customers to
XZX are assembly houses that supply to OEMs in the electronics industry.
